Day Five – enjoying Hanoi

We awoke feeling refreshed after a long sleep, and set out with a fresh mindset and eager eyes for a new day in Vietnam’s Capital city. We joined the free tour with our hostel, which walked us around Downtown (although our guide walked so quickly that I almost lost him on many occasions trying to cross the hectic roads).

Today was spent soaking up the sites, sounds and smells of Hanoi; by wandering through the traffic heavy streets in Downtown and the markets, and enjoying coffee breaks and relaxing moments by the large lake in the centre of the Old City.

Day Five’s picture depicts a lady working in the beautifully manicured garden that surrounds the central lake. It’s wonderful to sit here, look out over the city, and people watch all the interesting Vietnamese locals who wander past. Yes it is rather chilly and the traffic is noisy, but despite this, it’s a peaceful spot to take a break from the chaos and soak up the atmosphere.
